Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Defense Wei Fenghe has said that he has paid a short visit to Nepal in connection with the implementation of bilateral agreements reached between the Presidents and Heads of Government of China and Nepal. Expressing brief remarks at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapal and other high-ranking officials, the Chinese special guest said that the purpose of his visit was to further strengthen the existing ties between the two countries by enhancing mutual military cooperation.
Stating that there is a strong and strong relationship between China and Nepal, he said that he came to Nepal with the aim of taking it to a new height. “I am confident that the visit will be result-oriented. The visit has been delayed due to Covid-19,” he said, adding that his visit during Covid-19 would be of special significance.
Minister Wei was welcomed by Home Minister Thapa, Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Reshmiraj Pandey, Rathi Prabhuram Sharma of the Nepal Army, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanchi and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kali Prasad Pokharel. The Chinese special guest led a 21-member delegation and landed in Kathmandu on a special flight. The delegation also includes senior officials of the People’s Liberation Army.
Today, he is scheduled to hold separate courtesy meetings with President Vidyadevi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Defense, and hold bilateral talks with Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa.
